The lowly hiking staff (walking stick) is a versatile implement of a thousand and one uses, and its functions as a sturdy third leg helping us maintain our stability when maneuvering over uneven terrain.
When the path leads downwards, it slows our momentum, and push us forward when the trail ascends.
We can use the staff to probe surrounding vegetation for unpleasant surprises, or to test soft ground too dangerous to walk on.
With only a little ingenuity, we can create various uses out of it in an emergency, for example a fishing rod.
Like the hiking staff there is another trusty Helper at our side as we travel through life, our God.
God is ever – present to help us past every obstacle, emotional, mental or spiritual.
God’s power will get us up the mountain and carry us through the dark valley of trouble and strife
Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
God’s wisdom is always on call for moments both mundane and challenging.
Do not go anywhere without God, Amen.
