Home free
The idea of being home free goes back to childhood games and a designated zone, where your opponents couldn’t touch you, and similarly Israelite adults figured they could do whatever they wanted away from the temple and then come in and act the part of God’s obedient, holy people.
Jeremiah 7:9-10 Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not; And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?
A great number of Christians behave similarly in today’s life, they put in their hour on Sunday morning (to have their card stamped) and act as if following God is the spiritual equivalent of filling up their cars, once a week and ready to go, with maybe an occasional top-off during the week, with Bible study or cell group meeting, with a desperate prayer fired off at some time other than at a meal or as they put the kids to bed.
God wants all of us, because God knows we’ll never be satisfied with all of anything else, and you’ll just be hypocritical if you try to follow God piecemeal, and for some, better than other it seems doable.
Unfortunately when you try to have it both ways, your way and God’s way, you will end up with neither.
Rather ask God to show you any areas of your life where you’re holding back, and then surrender them to God, don’t settle for less than God’s best, for that’s the only way you’ll truly get home free, Amen.
